Dock Rules


1. All guest boats must register with the Club Manager immediately

after tying up.


2. Each member is responsible for securing his boat in a safe and

seaworthy manner. All lines, cleats, sampson posts, etc., are to be

in good condition; no portion of a boat may extend over a dock.


3. Sailboats shall secure all rigging so as to prevent any noise.


4. Non-members may not board member’s boat, unless member has

notified Club Manager in advance, or the person has with him a

written and signed authorization from the member, or in the event

of an emergency.


5. No person, other than owner, may move a boat from a slip or

mooring unless owner has notified Club Manager in advance, or

the person has with him a written and signed authorization from

the member, or in the event of an emergency.


6. Unnecessary and excessive running of a boat’s engine when at

dock is forbidden.


7. Outboards, or dinghies shall not be put into any regular boat slip.


8. Docks and finger piers should be kept clear of all lines and other

potential hazards.


9. Mooring lines are not to be left in the water.


10. Dinghies, rafts and television antennas are not to be placed or left

on dock or finger pier at any time.


11. Alteration to docks slips or lights shall be made only with written

permission of the Rear Commodore. Members altering slips will be

charged for the full size of the slip from the date of alteration.


12. Dock boxes, one to a member, must conform to club standards as

to color, placement and size. After October 1, 1991, all new dock

boxes should be white fiberglass and no greater than three feet by

four feet by six feet. They shall extend no more than two feet onto

the dock in order not to impede passageway.


13. Dock boxes must be in good condition of paint and repair by June

1st. Dock boxes not repaired or painted after 10 days written

notice from the Rear Commodore, will be repaired or painted by

the yacht club and cost charged to the member. Family name or

boat name shall be fixed to the vertical side. After March 1, 1991,

all dock boxes that are replaced must conform to rule 12 above.


14. Use of charcoal burners, gas burners, electric grills or any other

open flame is not permitted on boats or docks.


15. Return wheelbarrow to parking area immediately after usage. No

other vehicles are permitted on docks.

 

16. Engine parts. oil, or other greasy items shall not be placed or

hauled in wheelbarrow, unless so designated for that purpose.

 

17. Electric meters shall be read, documented and witnessed when

entering or leaving temporary or permanent slips. Members shall

not use electrical outlets in slips they have not registered for.

 

18. When boat is removed from slip for overnight or longer notify the

Club Manager and read electric meter.

 

19. Children who are non-swimmers are to wear life preservers when

on docks.

 

20. Dogs must be controlled, on close leash, by owner or responsible

member of family at all times.

 

21. No fishing or swimming from docks is permitted.

 

22. Weapons, beebee guns, firearms and fireworks are not permitted.

 

23. Radios, TV’s and other audible devices, shall be kept at moderated

levels at all times. Maintain quiet between the hours of 11 p.m.

and 8 a.m.

 

24. Loud hailers and bullhorns are not to be used for inter-dock

communications.

 

25. Condense trash and place in sturdy bags before depositing in

receptacles. Secure lids of trash receptacles.

 

26. Obscene language or profanity is not to be used at any time.

 

27. WALK — DO NOT RUN ON THE DOCK.

 

28. Carpet or runners are not permitted to be placed on dock or

finger dock.

 

29. Enforcement of all dock rules and prevention of unsafe practices

shall be the duty of the ranking Officer or Board Member on dock.

 

30. Rear Commodore shall be required to verify the ownership and

dimensions of the vessel owned by a member who is applying for

a permanent slip assignment by examining the vessel’s papers.

 

31. A key or lock combination for your boat must be given to the Club

Manager for use in an emergency.

 

32. No work may be performed on boats at the Club when such

work may interfere with the comfort, cleanliness or safety of other

boats or their occupants. Examples of such work are: sanding,

grinding or painting of any kind, where the dust, drippings, spray,

or noise is bothersome, irritating, or damaging to other boats or

their occupants; or any other kind of work that is objectionable to

members or their guests. If a member objects to the work being

done, that work shall cease immediately, until the objection can

be reviewed by the ranking Board member available. Members

wishing to do work or have work done of a questionable nature are

urged to seek prior Board approval, to avoid dispute.

 

33. Signs for the sale of a boat on land or water are prohibited.

 

34. If a member is permanently assigned to a slip for a boat which

presently qualifies, and purchases a smaller primary boat, no

longer qualifying for that slip, he would be allowed to retain the

current slip assignment until a qualifying slip becomes available.

The member would then be required to bid on the smaller slip.

 

35. Slips along the bulkhead shall be bid as variable length slips

as follows. The bulkhead slips on A dock shall be designated

as “50/60/70 foot” slips. The bulkhead slips on B dock shall be

designated as “60/70/80 foot” slips. Members may bid on these

slips so long as their primary boat qualifies for slips of any of the

listed lengths. The slip(s) shall be awarded to the most senior

member to bid. It shall be the responsibility of the member to

which the bulkhead slip has been awarded to add or remove

pilings or make any other alterations.

 

36. If a member sells their boat during the off season period from

November 1 through March 31, while their boat is docked at

SBYC, the new purchaser may keep the boat at SBYC, at the

discretion of the Rear Commodore, until March 31, provided they

have insurance to meet our minimum requirements and pay the

By-Law specified slip rental fee each month or portion thereof, in

advance. The member will be responsible for notifying the Rear

Commodore of the sale, making sure the insurance is in place and

that the slip fee and electric fees are paid.

 

37. Guests of SBYC members or a visiting guest whose belongs to a

yacht club that is a member of the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Club

Association or the Yachting Club of America may rent a slip or the

guest dock areas upon approval of the Rear Commodore. The

rate for overnight stays shall be at the rate of $1.00 per foot LOA

of the vessel, per night, and a daily electrical charge of $5.00 for a

single 30 amp service or $10 for 2-30 amp or 50 amp service will

be assessed. For daylight hour stays there shall be no dockage

fee, but electrical charges as stated above, will apply if used.

The guest dock areas shall be limited to three (3) consecutive

days and nights. Special exceptions may be granted by the Rear

Commodore. The time of usage of a slip or the guest dock areas

shall not interfere with a Member’s usage of a slip or impede safe

navigation by other vessels.

 

House and Grounds Rules

1. No guest may use the club facilities unless the host member or a

member of his immediate family is present.

 

2. There shall be no excessive noise (music, singing, dancing) on the

club grounds or in the clubhouse after 11 PM on weeknights and

midnight on Friday, Saturday or holiday evenings.

 

3. Picnic tables and barbecue pits are available to all members. The

area must be properly cleaned and free of refuse after using.

 

4. No dogs are allowed in the clubhouse. Dogs must be on a short

leash while on club property, other than in the designated dog run.

Pet owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs.

 

5. The kitchen facilities may not be used by members or guests at

any time except when there is a club function.

 

6. Food and beverages may be brought into the dining area of the

clubhouse as long as the clubhouse is left in the condition in which

it was found. 

 

7. Wet bathing attire will not be allowed in the main club room or

dining area.

 

8. Abuse of any club facility by guests or children of members is the

responsibility of their parents or the host member.

 

9. All members and their children and guests are requested and

expected to practice a reasonable amount of tidiness in using the

heads and shower facilities. Clothing is not to be left in shower

rooms. Wipe sink with paper towels or sponge after use.

 

10. Members only may park cars on the A lot. All guests must park

on the B lot. All must park in a manner prescribed by the posted

signs. The Club will not be responsible for any damages to

automobiles on these lots; nor will the Club be responsible for

their contents.

 

11. Dinghy racks are provided for club members and must be used for

storage. The club will not be responsible for damage to dinghies.

 

12. Small boat trailers must be parked in the area designated for them

on the B lot. The Rear Commodore will assign small boat trailers of

qualifying members designated spaces on the B parking lot, and

the member will be billed as described in the Article XVIII of the

SBYC By-Laws.

 

13. No small boats shall be stored on club property unless first

registered with the Rear Commodore. Each small boat shall be

stored only in location designated for it by the dock committee.

 

14. No member of the club may have a party at the club that excludes

any member from use of the club. Any member may have a

scheduled party at the club after proper reservation of the date

is made with the secretary and Club Manager. No parties can be

scheduled for Friday, Saturday or Sunday from May 15 through

September 15. This privilege is not extended to parties of more

than 150 people and scheduling is not necessary for parties of 14

or less per member. Any gathering of 15 or more guests shall be a

scheduled party. Premises must be left in original condition after a

party.

 

15. No boat other than a trailerable boat shall be stored or worked on

in the parking lot.

 

16. Enforcement of all House and Grounds rules shall be the duty of

the ranking officer or Board Member on the premises.

 

17. Bicycle riding, skate boarding or roller skating is not allowed on

docks or walkways.

 

18. The Chairman of the Membership Committee shall be required

to verify the ownership and dimensions of the vessel owned by

an applicant for resident membership by examining the vessel’s

papers.

 

19. The intended use of the club parking lots is for the parking of

passenger vehicles; any other uses must be approved by the Vice

Commodore or the highest-ranking officer present.

 

20. No member may store personal property in the Clubhouse, except

property delivered to the club to his attention, or in the event of an

emergency.

 

21. There will be no smoking in the Clubhouse at any time.

 

22. The bicycle shed is for storing non-motorized, standard bicycles

and/or dinghy outboard motors, up to 15 hp. SBYC will not be

responsible for any damages or losses. The shed is to remain

locked at all times. A charge of $60 per bicycle or outboard motor

will be assessed for access to the shed. Space is limited, therefore

use of the shed will be on a first come first served basis. The Vice

Commodore will be responsible for assignments.

 

Pool Rules

 

1. Use of the SBYC Pool is limited to members of SBYC, their

families and guests, when accompanied by a member. (Spouse

and unmarried children living at home will be considered as

members of a family.)

 

2. No one may use the pool unless the LifeGuard and Pool Operator

are on duty.

 

3. An adult must accompany children under eight years of age.

 

4. An adult must accompany children who cannot swim the pool

length. 

 

5. Showers must be taken before entering the pool.

 

6. No animals allowed in the pool area.

 

7. No swim rafts, inner tubes, diving gear, or similar devices, or

members lounges, are allowed in the pool or pool area.

 

8. No food or drink allowed in the pool area.

 

9. The Lifeguard on duty is in complete charge of the pool area. His

or her instructions and commands as to proper behavior and attire

must be followed in order to be allowed to remain in the pool area.

 

10. Parents shall be responsible for seeing that children not toilet

trained are not permitted into the pool.
