Selby Bay Yacht Club was founded in August 1947 by six families interested in boating on the Chesapeake. Their deep sense of family and friendship survive today. Most of the improvements in the early years were done by the members themselves. Our clubhouse, recently remodeled, is now a beautiful and comfortable respite located on the refreshing and rejuvenating waters of the Bay.
The Club is conveniently located on the picturesque Selby Bay off the South River, just minutes from the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay at the Thomas Point Lighthouse. It is a twenty minute drive from downtown Annapolis and approximately fifty minutes from Montgomery County, Northern Virginia or Baltimore. We think it is an ideal location for boating or simply to relax at the Club with friends.
The Club has seventy-one slips for sail and power boats with electricity, cable, wi-fi internet access, filtered water and optional telephone hook-ups, plus several small boat slips and a launching ramp. Fuel docks and repair facilities are located minutes away at local marinas. There is ample parking, and a lifeguard-protected swimming pool. Our clubhouse is a multipurpose facility--offering generous party space, a library/TV room, a computer with wide-band internet access and newly renovated showers. Barbeque and picnic facilities are located under sprawling shade trees behind the clubhouse.
We are an affordable member-run club of sailors and power boaters with much of the work done by the membership and live-in Club Manager. Each member has an equal stake in the operation and character of the Club resulting in a family oriented group of individuals who enjoy each other as much as boating on the Chesapeake. Our Club, as a member of the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Clubs Association and the Yachting Club of America, enjoys the right of reciprocity with other member clubs.
Club cruises include trips to the Inner Harbor, St. Michael's, Solomon's Island and Georgetown. They are organized by our members and involve activities such as potluck brunches, cocktail parties, bus trips, group dinners, and especially fun and comradery. Social activities at the Club, both in season and during the winter, comprise a crab feast, a wine and cheese party, a picnic/barbeque, an annual dinner dance, and a white elephant. An annual sailboat race and raftout, mystery cruises, and impromptu cruises organized by individual members round out our busy schedule.
As we celebrate our 61th year, we recognize and honor our Past Commodores.
